Painting, Pounding, and Power!

2 exciting activities were set up for the children for “Splat Day”. One was set up as a mystery for the children to solve – white cotton face pads were scattered around a white piece of paper. Plastic hammers, wrenches and sticks were placed around the paper for children to pound the cotton pads. “Splat!” Underneath the cotton pads were blobs of paint that made beautiful abstract art.

Children experimented with the different tools, different colours, and also used the cotton pads to “smoosh” the paint around. It was exciting when they discovered each different colour under the pads, but also when they created a new colour by mixing them up.
“I made orange!”
“I made purple!”
I “splatted” Chase laughed.

The other activity was designed for children to climb up onto a step stool and drop a play-dough filled balloon dipped in paint, or paint soaked pom-pom from different heights.
Nate turned to his friend and said,” Owen, isn’t this fun?!”

Lucy mixed the colours up from the lids before dropping it down to create a rainbow plop. Love it when children put their own spin on a planned activity. The finished product was displayed on our fence for the children and families to admire.
