The children in the afternoon group have perhaps spent part of the morning with us, gone to school, played outside once they return, have a “social” lunch, cleaned up and listened to stories/sing songs all before 1:00! Kaberi and Erin spent the first part of the school year getting to know the children – their interests, personalities, skills, and to gain a special connection with each child in their group. Once the relationships were established, they decided to send home a special bag for children to share with their families. In the introduction letter they wrote a letter explaining that they hope by sharing their time with Spot, the children will understand the concept about learning about relationships, respect, and belonging.

The bag contained a stuffed puppy named “Spot”, 2 story books about dogs that are superheros, and a journal for children to write their adventures with Spot and show some pictures. Spot must have had a wonderful time – all the way to Brandon, another school, meeting other family pets, Mcdonald’s play land, the Human Rights Museum, grandparent’s homes, hockey, and played princesses. The most important part was probably cuddling with Spot at bedtime!

We have enjoyed a glimpse into the children’s lives at home, and hope this helps bridge the connection between K.I.D.S. Inc. and home. Thank you to all the families who helped contribute to our journal – your pictures, and writing about your beloved real or imaginary pets. There are a couple of families that Spot still needs to visit, and I’m sure that will be a super fun time as well!
