Wow! What an awesome day we had!

The weather was chilly but hiking along the riverbank trails and the bonfire sure helped to keep us warm! We had the perfect day to crack the thin layer of ice on top of the pond in the English Gardens, or on puddles along the way; to kick leaves and to crunch them under our feet! One group learned a lot about attracting chickadees with just the right whistle and the right type of bird seed (black sunflower seeds work best!) and a lot of practice and patience! Some children visited the new ice cap sculptures. Many children enjoyed being sculptures in the Leo Mol Sculpture garden! An old hollow tree trunk provided interesting adventures-the discovery of a butterfly wing and a dragonfly wing as well as what “bears” used it for….

The new duck pond shelter was a perfect place to warm ourselves by the fireplace, play some checkers, chess, read books, colour, and dance! Our lunch time bonfire was the highlight-cooking our own lunch! A fall wiener roast is so much fun! The marshmallows were lots of fun too-especially when we see how sticky they are on our mitts (OOOPs forgot to take one off to eat them!), our faces and our hands! Trees were climbed, footballs tossed and then our skeleton challenge!! Three teams raced through shrubs to gather the scattered skeleton bones and reassemble the “body”. Great team work team orange, green and purple!!

Hot chocolate warmed our insides when we returned from our nature retreat! Ahhhhh- memories made with great friends!
