K.I.D.S. Inc.’s kindergarten club highlights!

In our fall introduction letter we highlighted the benefits of grouping the children into a multiage setting. Our kindergarten children have unique developmental abilities and need the autonomy to express their individuality and practice both their fine and gross motor skills. It is also helpful to have some special time to bond with each other as they will be moving to school age next year.

The Kindergarten Club will be occurring for about an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Brenda will facilitate the program with children who are at K.I.D.S. Inc. in the morning, and Jean and Francine will be with the afternoon group.
It has been an exciting time this September as they started a new year at school. The afternoon group has been showing an interest in playing “school”, so we have provided a box containing pencils, erasers, lined paper and markers so they can continue their dramatization, and also work through any anxieties they may have regarding this change. They have expressed an interest in Science and Baking, but most of all anything Messy! We have introduced ourselves, and discussed how we are similar, and what our differences are. Our first messy activity was cornstarch magic and we discussed the properties of quicksand.

The morning group will be learning about each other through reading the story “Flat Stanley”. We will connect what we experience here at K.I.D.S. Inc., with the home life of each child by making a “Stanley” and mailing him to each child’s home. The children will be excited to see their name and address on the envelope, walk with their group to drop it in the mailbox, and then wait for the package to arrive at their home!
